For the love of ice cream
Traditional and trendy - Bahlsen launches together with DMK Eis three ice cream pints as a cool counterpart to its successful biscuit varieties.
The traditional Hanover-based company Bahlsen has been one of the most successful brands in Germany for the last 130 years. The founder Hermann Bahlsen was also the inventor of the German word “Keks” for biscuit. Over one hundred years ago, it would probably have been unimaginable that famous products in the Bahlsen line-up would be inspiration for ice cream variants bearing the same name. In collaboration with the German ice-cream manufacturer DMK Eis GmbH, Bahlsen is launching three different ice-cream pint products.
The ice cream and thus the packaging design should appeal to two target groups: fans of the established Bahlsen products "Ohne Gleichen" and "Messino", and young ice cream consumers looking to try new ice cream varieties. Thus, the packaging had to have a high level of brand recognition while also appealing to new customers.
Bahlsen’s brand identity is immediately recognisable on-pack. The ice cream scoop combined with the classic Bahlsen biscuit and its ingredients were elaborately photographed. The coloured background reflects the respective variant while accentuating the ice cream. This way, the design team has combined classic product staging and modern clarity with great effect!
